Objectives & Accomplishments

The Army Alliance was formed to support APG programs and infrastructure by informing government and the community, promoting a clear, coherent image of APG, and enhancing the post as a national asset.

Since its inception in 2001, Army Alliance initiative programs and other programs the Alliance has supported have been funded for almost $200 million.

With the signing of BRAC into law in November of 2005, the Army Alliance achieved the culmination of its biggest goal to date. The successful implementation of the BRAC recommendations will require the Alliance's continued commitment to ensure that APG and the surrounding communities have the infrastructure and resources necessary to succeed. To that end:

  • Many members and directors of the Alliance are participating on the Harford County BRAC Planning and Advisory Commission (BPAC), with recommendations scheduled to be released July 1, 2006.
  • The Alliance is providing financial support for a transportation study to assist in providing recommendations to improving critical infrastructure elements.
  • The Alliance will continue to provide emphasis and resources to legislative initiatives including improvements to Maryland's AMTRAK and MARC commuter rail stations at both Aberdeen and Edgewood areas of APG and funding of road improvements in the Harford County and APG region.
  • The Alliance will also lend its support to the Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor, the new joint initiative by the counties of Harford, Cecil and Baltimore Counties to market the region to military operations and contractors moving to APG as a result of BRAC.
  • The Army Alliance is maintaining MarylandReady.com, a Web site devoted to keeping interested parties abreast of preparation and initiatives designed to prepare the region for the impact of BRAC.
  • The Alliance will publish updated APG Maryland at the Ready Relocation Guides semi-annually to assist families considering opportunities in Maryland as a result of BRAC.
