The Susquehanna Workforce Network, Inc., the Harford County Office of Economic Development, and multiple workforce partners joined forces to host APG, C4ISR, Government Contractors and other technical companies on Thursday March 18th, at the third Defense, Technology and Intelligence (DTI) Job Fair held at Ripken Stadium.
Organizations recruiting job applicants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the DTI event. "The resources we put into this job fair really pays off," said John Bone’ of R-4. Maureen Copeland of Reema Consulting experienced much success, "We filled all the positions that we were recruiting for; loved it." First time attendee, Diane Price of Alcore indicated, "...we saw quality technical candidates."
Over 800 job seekers attended the Job Fair. Registration data indicated that job seekers came from several states including Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Colorado, New York, Florida and New Jersey. Nearly 70% of the attendees had technical or college level credentials. Additionally, the data reflected that many of the registrants possessed the skills, experience and educational background needed for the positions the organizations were seeking. These positions included Engineers, Program Analysts, Program Managers, Chemists, Acquisition Professionals, Business Development, IT Specialists Project Management, Scientists, Technicians, Technical Writers, Web Developers Scientists and Linguist. Many of the companies in attendance were contractors moving to and expanding in the region as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure 2005 decision.
Bruce England, Executive Director for the Susquehanna Workforce Network said, "The considerable job seeker turnout for these skilled positions is indicative that the region possesses, and can attract, the interests and skilled workforce required by the growing technology base in the region.

This was the fourth year of Army Alliance participation at MACo (Md. Assn. of Counties) Summer Conference. This is the premier event for Maryland state and county officials. At this venue we can reach out to and be heard by more state and local elected and appointed officials in one spot than any other in our state.

For the third year the Army Alliance sponsored a BRAC-related panel discussion on the Wednesday preceding the official start of the conference. Previously the panel has been standing room only as local officials continue to crave information about BRAC and its impact on their communities. This year's panel was also very well-attended. Attending this year were County Executives, planning and zoning personnel, State cabinet level secretaries, and others involved directly with BRAC activities. In 2007 we featured the LG and the newly established BRAC Subcabinet; in 2008 we featured the Lt. Governor and five cabinet secretaries talking about BRAC Zone legislation.
This year, our focus was workforce development challenges throughout the State. Our key message was that this is a serious opportunity that Maryland must be prepared to meet or else the jobs can and will go someplace else. This was the ideal forum to get that message out. Our panel members were:
The Army Alliance also co-sponsored a Maryland Military Alliances booth. This is the fourth year for this booth and, as in prior years, we were able to provide information on the activities of the alliances across Maryland. Participating Alliances included: the Fort Meade Alliance, the Fort Detrick Alliance, the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance, and the Indian Head Alliance.
